Selection Guidelines
HOP is looking for outreach programs that demonstrate how to effectively support the provision of comprehensive and accessible health care to farmworkers.
Selection Criteria
Does your program:
- Provide community outreach that impacts farmworkers’ access to healthcare?
- Work within your organization to maximize the delivery of culturally-appropriate services?
- Take services to farmworkers where they live, work, and spend time?
- Advocate for farmworkers?
- Link farmworkers with other service providers?
Eligibility
Nominated Migrant/Community Health Centers and Migrant Voucher Programs providing outreach services to farmworkers will be considered for the Sister Cecilia B. Abhold Award. Programs receiving the award are not eligible for consideration the following year.
Award Selection Process
Nominees are divided into their respective streams for evaluation. Award recipients are selected based on how effectively the outreach program addresses the five key components of HOP’s Community Health Outreach Model. The five components comprising the model include community outreach, organizational integration, farmworker access point, coalition building, and community relations.
Community Outreach: Design, implement, and evaluate outreach program activities and resources effectively and appropriately to successfully impact farmworker health care.
Organizational Integration: Effective integration of the outreach program into the health care organization maximizes the delivery of culturally-appropriate services and increases positive health outcomes.
Farmworker Access Point: The outreach program coordinates and participates in the provision of services to farmworkers where they live, work, and spend time.
Coalition Building: The outreach program serves as a necessary catalyst for building community coalitions that enable farmworker advocates and providers to meet complex farmworker needs.
Community Relations: Outreach programs address the complex health and social service needs of farmworkers by linking with outside service agencies and serving as the liaison between farmworkers and other service providers.
HOP recognizes the value in peer-to-peer review and exchange. For this reason, HOP takes pride in involving outside agencies in the review of the Sister Cecilia B. Abhold Award nominations. The selection committee consists of one representative from each of the previous year’s three award recipient organizations and two HOP staff members.
Anonymity
To ensure anonymity and an objective review process, all names, organizations, and other identifying information are removed from the award nominations before they are reviewed by the selection committee.
